London’s famous department store Selfridges first opened its doors in 1909, and instantly became Oxford St’s biggest crowd puller. These days it attracts more than 70,000,000 visitors each year, making it one of the capital’s most popular tourist destinations.

I think Selfridges is one of the great attractions of London. It’s a fantastic looking store that was designed in the turn of the century, it’s neo-classical in style, and it really is a must see when you come to London. It was the scale of Selfridges that really set it apart. There’s five hundred thousand square feet of shopping space in our store, it has extraordinarily high ceilings and it has many art deco influences. And then these three great escalators that take you on a journey through four floors of extraordinary product. Selfridges is for everyone, and really it’s about buying something as small as a postcard, but equally, you could come and have your whole wardrobe from noe of the top designers in the world. We are on Oxford street, which is the busiest shopping street is the world, and Selfridges really is Oxford Street.

He was all about retail theatre, and that’s something that we really continue in Selfridges, to bring the store to life not only through fabulous product but also extraordinary experiences. Whether you want to get your teeth whitened, have your shoes fixed, have a back rub or learn how to put on makeup, you can do all of this in our store.

As well as the products and services on offer, a highlight for many visitors are the eye catching window displays.

I like to think of the windows at Selfridges as the front cover of our magazine, if you like, and we do 9 schemes a year, that’s every 6 weeks, so they’re constantly changing. And that means for our team here, there’s never a dull moment. They’re always either planning six months ahead or installing late into the night.
