Les Trois Garcons

Les Trois Garcons

VO

If minimalist décor seems so last century, this Shoreditch favourite has all the fin-de-siecle opulence you could hope for, from the gaslit exterior to the glitzy, theatrical dining rooms.

I think, Les 3 garcons, anybody can see for themselves, is a little bit over the top, quirky, very stylish at the same time. A little bit kitsch as well, but I think the bottom line, very, very special.

Its sort of a stage set, you feel that you are sitting on stage and you've got everything around you, a few stuffed animals, a few beautiful chandeliers.

Firstly as soon as we walked in we were absolutely taken by the decor, I mean the decor is absolutely phenomenal, something quite unique to the restaurants in London, I think its a change from the minimalist look that we've been flooded with at the moment, so yeah really exciting.

The mad imaginations behind this extravagant concept belong to the owners, who perhaps unsurprisingly are also art and antique dealers.

The 3 Garcons belongs to 3 directors, therefore 3 garcons, the 3 boys, from Sweden, Malaysia and France.

I think it basically started when the owners were looking for a place to live in, and the only thing they could afford was in the East End, looked all over London and decided that this was an upcoming area as well with Brick Lane a stone's throw away and Shoreditch of course the new Soho

But is all this low rent camp glamour just an exercise in style over substance?

VOX

I know the reputation is the food's not so great, its just the decor, but I think the food's alright...

The food is classic French with a touch of Malaysian, a little bit of Swedish as well, the wine list is very good as well, predominantly French

But will your bill match the décor for excess?

You can of course splash out, you can have the most expensive wine on the list, you can have Beluga Caviar, beautiful champagne as well or you can come in and share a starter, main course, dessert and you don't have to have a very fat wallet.

VOX

I must say when you walk in and see the flying bulldog you get an idea of the whimsical nature of this restaurant, we've also had some wonderful food and wine already, really feel the restaurant is just beautifully done and I'm very excited to be here.
