Absolut Ice Bar
London’s first ice bar has landed in Mayfair. You can be sure of an icy reception, but, what exactly is it?
It is exactly what it sounds like it is a bar made completely of snow and ice from a river in Sweden. All the ice we have here comes from the Ice Hotel in Northern Sweden and we get the ice from there because the ice is so amazingly clear.
In a busy bar the crystal clear Nordic ice eventually starts to lose its definition so every six months the absolute ice bar is reconstructed with a completely new design.
It will get a completely different experience every six months people can come along again on repeat visits and they will see a completely different theme in the bar. The bar really is a big freezer, housed in about 15 tonnes of ice actually in the bar.
The ice is very, very clear and very cold.
With a temperature of minus 5 you can’t exactly rock up in shorts and a tee-shirt so how does one stay toasty?
You will go to our cloak room where we will cloak you up in an amazing silver cape that we provide then they come in here, have a drink and chill out.
Whether we have any celebrities come into the bar or whether it’s a member of the public, once someone puts one of the capes on which is designed obviously to keep people warm but also to protect the ice everyone is on an equal par and it actually creates conversation. There is an entrance fee to come into the bar, but the entrance fee does include a vodka cocktail.
The drinks we have in here is exclusive for this bar, and one of the most popular ones is the icy river that’s Absolut Vanilla, a dash of elder flower syrup, passion fruit juice and blue Curacao. So the drinks are very nice and of course another good thing is that you wont need any ice!
I think when you first walk in actually it takes your breath away, it’s extremely cold but quite incredible.
