Darwin – Big Idea Big Exhibition
Alex Giffikin – Interpretation Developer
This is Darwin Big Idea Big Exhibition, the new exhibition about Charles Darwin here at the Natural History Museum in London.
The exhibition is all about the life and work of Charles Darwin, so it’s about his adventures on the voyage of the Beagle, his life at Down House and in London, and then there’s a lot about the theory of evolution by natural selection and the evidence that we have for that theory.
It’s crammed full of objects and specimens that Charles Darwin collected and used in his lifetime. We’ve got a fabulous recreation of his study at Down House and another highlight of the exhibition are two Mocking Birds that he collected while he was on his voyage of the Galapagos Islands, and we think that they are the key to Charles Darwin discovering or realizing that species might change, so it’s one of the most important specimens in the history of biology.
In 2009 it’s the 150th anniversary of the publication of “origin of the species” one of the most important books the history of modern biology I think, also, in February it’s Darwin’s 200th Birthday so we’re celebrating everything to do with him this year.
Come along and you’ll find out loads of information about him, see some of his things and find out more about his theories. You’ll get to know a bit more about the man behind the beard.
